The Foxtrot

The Foxtrot is a Social Dance, and its fall into a category of ballroom dance. The Foxtrot is a smooth dance, traveling around the line of dance. The basic Foxtrot beat is slow-slow-quick-quick (SSQQ). The Foxtrot dance starts with the lady facing inside the dance floor and progresses anti-clockwise around the dance floor, along the line of dance. Besides that, basic backward and basic forward only takes three beats (SSQQ) whilst danced to four-beat music, and there are six counts. It is danced in combinations of slow and quick steps, with each slow step taking two beats and each quick step taking one beat of music.

For the lady step, the basic backward and basic forward moves are:

Back basic step:
Back step with right foot (Slow) 1, 2
Back step with left foot (Slow) 3, 4
Step to right (Quick) 5
Close left foot to right (Quick) 6

Forward basic step:
Forward step with right foot (Slow) 1, 2
Forward step with left foot (Slow) 3, 4
Step to right (Quick) 5
Close left foot to right (Quick) 6
